Small Area Fair Market Rents
HUD established Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMRs) to provide Housing Choice Voucher tenants with more options on where to live – giving them access to areas of high opportunity and lower poverty areas.
SAFMRs are calculated at the ZIP code level. This is different from Fair Market Rents, which reflect the average cost of affordable housing in a larger metropolitan area. We provide SAFMRs to specific areas in Northern Virginia. For more details, contact: ContactHCVP@VirginiaHousing.com

Small Area Fair Market Rents
To navigate the Small Area Fair Market Rents webpage, follow these steps:
- Select Year
- Click Button - "Look up FY 2024 Small FMRs"
- Select State (Virginia)
- Select a County (County or a City can be selected)
